Social Media Breakfast - Minneapolis/St. Paul

Connecting over eggs & coffee in the land of 10,000 lakes

Hi!
I didn't realize that the SMB was this morning until I saw a Twitter post about it...and by then it was too late for me to make it to Best Buy. Rats! Is there an email announcement list or something that will send me notices about upcoming meetings? I'm following SMB on Twitter, and I am part of the Facebook group, but those didn't get the job done for me this time. Ning isn't a community that I frequent regularly, so I would need to make special trips over here to see updates on the group (something I always forget to do).

You all do a great job of organizing these, and I would love to attend. Might an email list or something like Yahoo!/Google Groups be a possibility? Or is there a way to have email updates sent through Ning?

Thanks!
Toby

That's not a bad idea Toby. I'm sorry you missed the breakfast yesterday. I'd not sent out emails before because I didn't want to be flooding people's inboxes with junk. Though one or two event notification emails a month probably doesn't quite qualify for junk.

I'll take a look at it going forward. Maybe give it a try for the next one and see what people think.

Thanks for the feedback!!!! :)

Thanks, Rick! I know that people are very sensitive about email spam these days, so I understand your reluctance to go that route. Personally, I would be glad to receive 1-2 emails per month regarding Social Media Breakfast. I would be interested to know what the rest of the group thinks...

Group - Should Rick send out monthly/bi-monthly email meeting notices?

I'm sure it's simple enough to have people who want the e-mails to sign up for that distribution. Other folks -- for whom this site, Facebook or Twitter might be sufficient -- can skip the e-mails, right?

That said, for those who want 'em, e-mails make sense.

Good points - I'll see what options we have for an email about events. I didn't look closely at the options when I set up the network, but there may be more than just a list. Hopefully, it can be managed - or maybe we'll take it somewhere else to manage an email update.

More feedback is welcome! ;)

I know Ning does allow network creators/admins to send notifications. If we simply make sure that people join the Ning group -- no need to "use it" or check back often (or ever, I suppose) -- you should be able to send e-mails to notify of upcoming events, then maybe a "SMBMSP is tomorrow!" reminder.

Hi Rick!
Thanks for increasing your communication about the December event. I saw notices all over Twitter and also in my email in-box. I was a bit saddened that my schedule didn't allow me to participate in this one, but I'll be back on the horse in January.

Merry Christmas, Happy holidays, New Year, etc. :)

Yet another person who wants to receive an email. I prefer all my communications in one bucket.

I'm going to look into setting up an email notification for SMBMSP. Might not be fully in place before the January event, but I'll send a notification from Ning about that event. There are some options we can investigate.

Thanks for all the feedback!
