When I was in St Paul, there was new talk of having medical/
dental plans,
angioplasty records,
travel insurance quotes and much more on the internet. There is much discussion that must happen before this is done.…

I attended my first Social Media Breakfast meeting today. We had terrific speakers with effective visual presentations; one even showed a movie clip.As I surveyed the room during a profound moment in one presenter's talk, instead of viewing a sea of enraptured faces, I saw mostly the tops of people's heads as they Tweeted away. The faces that were visible were fixated on the live Twitter Wall searching for their recent posts to #smbmsp about why there was no bacon, suggesting a movie theatre ven…

Writing is evolving. Today we have blogs, micro-blogs, bullets, HTML and texting, all ways to communicate a message. Most of these require and/or suggest fewer characters, leaving you to be creative, clean and straightforward. This changes the game, for some.
In the areas of client and customer messaging, less is more. Tell them what they need to know, now. Not in four, well bodied paragraphs. This is why tools like Twitter and status updates have become great for short blurbs on what is going…

In this post I ask the question whether
advocacy journalism blinds the press from the facts. I compare two recent stories of journalists, Lou Dobbs formerly of CNN and Gareth Jones who reported on Stalin's forced famine in Ukraine in 1933 in which millions died. Jones was dismissed by his journalist peers who were favorable to the ideals of communism.

There is a new barcode in town called
"QR codes." It's much more than just a barcode. It is changing the way people are doing things all over the world. Scanning these codes is similar to scanning items at Target or Wal-Mart with your mobile phone, but QR codes have far more data than barcodes. The "
QR" in QR code is an acronym for
Quick
Response. It is an application on a mobile phone that leads people to additional informatio…

whatever you want to call it, there may be an opportunity to do it in the Highland Park area of St. Paul. I have an office that is like a newsroom, it also has an audio and video recording area, now that's unique, and can be a home away from home for 4 people. Ah ha, the trick is getting the right 4 people and not just 4 warm bodies to split the rent 4 ways.
If you are looking to explore ways to discover opportunities, let me know. Provident Partners office is on the corner of Ford Parkway and…

What is that you ask? Well, it's a combination of karaoke and presenting - the spin is that instead of singing to you're favorite tunes, you'll be presenting an unfamiliar presentation. Sound like fun? Of course it does.
If this sounds like something you'd like to try, heck even if you only want to watch the carnage, you can RSVP at…

Thought this was a great primer for all of us who truely believe and use the power of social media.
-----------
In the Internet age, David can go on Facebook to help him bring down Goliath.
That's what happened in Morrisville, Vermont, where the tiny Rock Art Brewery, maker of Vermonster beer, marshaled a wave of public opinion to help in a lawsuit against Hansen Beverage, which sued for copyright infringement on their Monster Energy Drink.

These two words hold much power. They can make people uneasy, skeptical, excited and even a little queasy. Some ignore them as much as possible. However, social media is here, and is as much part of our culture as the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle.
But what is social media?
Dan Evans is the author of Social Media Marketing: An Hour A Day, and Read This Dot Com both of which focus on social media in business.
Evans defines social media in his book as '...a natural, genuine conversatio…
