IN preparation for this month's Social Media Breakfast, here is an interview from the
Marketing Edge Podcast with Paul Levy the CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. A leader among executives in health care using social media, but merely as part of an overall strategy for improvement. In doing so the question remains whether the public will appreciate transparency as a means of improving or is it the rope by which the public will be quick to jud…

In this post I ask the question whether
advocacy journalism blinds the press from the facts. I compare two recent stories of journalists, Lou Dobbs formerly of CNN and Gareth Jones who reported on Stalin's forced famine in Ukraine in 1933 in which millions died. Jones was dismissed by his journalist peers who were favorable to the ideals of communism.

whatever you want to call it, there may be an opportunity to do it in the Highland Park area of St. Paul. I have an office that is like a newsroom, it also has an audio and video recording area, now that's unique, and can be a home away from home for 4 people. Ah ha, the trick is getting the right 4 people and not just 4 warm bodies to split the rent 4 ways.
If you are looking to explore ways to discover opportunities, let me know. Provident Partners office is on the corner of Ford Parkway and…

I took a quick spin and really think it is worth the effort. it is essentially a mix of word press, utterli, and flickr all initiated from your email. That's right, just send an email to post@posterous.com and add the photo attachment, audio file and it posts it to a unique URL that is a blog. Crazy. I'm amazed how they hand the photos, and will be testing that out in the future, Here is my new

this is a Marketing Edge Podcast with Steve Rubel recorded during the 140 Conference in New York in June. I lead it off with the premise that Twitter is like radio. I was on a panel about new applications and I would like to see more analytics about Twitter followers, like who is online when I am, what are my followers Twitter habits, when do they jump in the Twitter stream. Then Steve and I talk about what happens after Twitter, yes Steve is not one to get attached to Twitter.
Here's that…

I've always tried to figure out the difference between the two. The January SMB helped me put some context around the issue, however, I still believe there is some contradiction between Personal Brand and being a participant in social media.
Maybe I'm lazy, advancing a digital brand is hard work. As Dan Schawbel said, personal brand is how you market yourself online. And that quote for me is a bit like fingernails on a chalkboard. You may not remember chalkboards or even chalk, but it's kind of…

Looking at SMB Friday as start to crazy weekend. Talking it up tonight at an MN chapter of the American Marketing Association. I am hoping my friend who is a former WCCO News Director joins me on Friday and a very active volunteer from the AMA, and a sharp marketing/communiations staffer who worked for a client. So that's three, but if you count Mike Keliher and his posse that means Provident Partners should get a few extra bacons don't you think?

As many of you know, I'm pretty active in the social media space. I have five kids, and run Provident Partners with my colleague Mike Keliher.
We are working on this interesting project with a social media network for parents of young pre school age childern. It is in the early phase of launch and we are looking to get input from parents and bloggers that discuss parenting and early education issues.
If you are one of these can you ping me or comment back here. thanks
